Responsibilities:
Lead Front/Lower Compartment Integration Team meetings (powertrain, chassis, body, electrical, exterior and HVAC engineers) to integrate their parts efficiently to achieve the necessary space and function. Develop meeting agendas; publish minutes, and document open issues, status and closure.
Lead additional workgroups to resolve packaging issues by creating alternative solutions for interferences, space violations, and function violations. Use trade-matrices to study alternatives while considering impacts such as cost, mass, timing, design for assembly, dimensional variation and other program imperatives.
Analyze component clearances, both static and dynamic, for all Tracking Vehicles using the UG Powertrain Roll program and following Corporate Best Practices.
Collaborate with styling engineers to achieve world class vehicle styling by efficient packaging of parts and subsystems. Use the UG Pedestrian Protection tool to evaluate the styled surface to the Underhood components for required clearance.
Utilize physical mock ups and CAD (UG-NX) to understand packaging issues and develop alternative solutions.
Run UG Groundline tool and Tire Envelope creation tool in order to support program Chassis requirements for clearance to ground and tire-to-body relationships.
Integrate styling requirements into the Underhood packaging and components through the VIU process with the Underhood Appearance Team.
Deliver program requirements:
Math Virtual Assessments & Synch Point reviews
Decision Fix Point (DFP) process as required
Conduct Peer reviews
Basic Required:
0-2 years experience in Chassis, Powertrain or Front Exterior packaging or related area
Demonstrated CAD skills - Unigraphics, VisMock-up and Teamcenter Engineering
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of automotive design
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
General interest in product design, particularly automotive
General interest and ability to integration complex systems
High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Familiarity with manufacturing processes
Basic understanding of Engineering Specifications
Proficient with Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Prior GM Regular Active experience in Engineering
Basic Preferred:
Engineering Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering
Additional Courses preferred: Vehicle packaging, Integrated Design
Experience working on vehicles - body work, mechanical repair
DFSS Certification
