Side Closure Integration Lead - either DIW or Hardware - leading the design, development, release, build, validation, and launch of Side Closure sub-systems. Interface with multiple cross-functional partners, including Manufacturing, Interior, Studio, Quality, Purchasing, CAE and key suppliers. Provide technical direction over engineering support personnel.
Support the Side Closure Product Development Team, maintaining and delivering per timing plans, interfacing with cross-functional partners, and executing required deliverables on time with excellence
Develops/prepares component technical specification and subsystem statement of requirements
Supports technical and design reviews
Defines interface control document requirements for component parts, negotiates and reaches agreement with interfacing components, and works with others to resolve issues
Performs appropriate component level studies/alternatives, and recommends direction based on cost, mass, timing, design for assembly, variation and other imperatives
Responsible for ensuring complete validation, including establishment of component validation plan
Completes and releases designs and engineering changes for components/subsystems to meet system requirements and needed improvements in quality and cost
Supports engineering activities with other functions (e.g. suppliers, suppliers quality, purchasing) to ensure product meets requirements
Diagnoses and corrects deficiencies using statistical problem solving and quality control methods, including support of pre-production and launch activities (Problem Resolution and Tracking System). Promptly identifies and resolves product quality issues.
Leads team to meet Engineering metrics, including on-time math releases, test-ready properties, rigorous problem solving and robust validation
Leads team to meet warranty and quality targets for Side Closure components and sub-systems
Clearly communicate and negotiate the criteria, best practices, and other key requirements to cross-functional team members to achieve robust design that meets imperatives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Prefer Mechanical or Electrical or equivalent experience
Minimum 2 years of experience. Prefer automotive industry in the areas of Product Development or Manufacturing
Proficient in MS Office - Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related field.
Demonstrated oral, written and formal presentation communication skills
Demonstrated ability for complex problem solving, both analytical and physical, plus ability to work independently
Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with global Engineering community or business partners to meet department and program objectives
Demonstrated project management skills, defining and completing key tasks and activities. Ability to organize and set priorities in a challenging multi-task setting. Possess key leadership skills to enable getting results.
Knowledge of typical automotive and PC software, including UG, CAE, Project Management, Excel, Powerpoint, etc
Basic understanding of specifications and release terms and systems
Basic Qualifications/Skills - Preferred:
Experience in development, release, validation and production of new automotive components or sub-systems
Experience with pre-production or launch build events, Product Development Teams, Issue Resolution Teams, Problem Solving activities, Supplier Selection, Supplier Reviews, and other technical reviews
Knowledgeable of overall vehicle assembly process, along with manufacturing processes for side closure components and sub-systems, including door hang process.
Demonstrated understanding of dimensional principles, including GD&T;, variation management, variation analysis, and measurement systems/techniques
Demonstrated understanding of door systems, including door fit and function. Impact of door design and fit on wind noise, closing efforts, road noise, appearance, sound quality, etc. Knowledgeable of impact of components such as sheet metal, handles, latches, locks, glass & weatherstrips on sub-system & vehicle imperatives.
Exposure to various Engineering tools, including DFMEA, PFMEA, DFA, DRBFM, DFSS, Red X, Basic Formability
Exposure to Engineering requirements, including SOR's, CTS, SSTS, VTS
Exposure to Engineering systems, including E2, PRTS, TcAE
