Analyze and review Color and Trim Design Appearance Releases (CTDAR) and material strategies for material substrates, and identify key engineering specifications, component manufacturability, material and paint engineering, and customer perceived quality issues.
Plan for every part to meet 100% Final Approval to Grain (FATG) and 100% Appearance Approval Report (AAR).
Collaborate with vehicle assembly plant Paint Shop Manufacturing System Integration Engineer (MSIE) and plastic hang-on component suppliers to develop new body colors, and review and approve new body colors.
Review pre-grain samples for surface and grain (texture) mapping, part draft analysis, and approve injection molding tools, slush Nickel Shell tools, and in mold Nickel Shell tools for trim components to meet surface and grain mapping requirements.
Review and approve color, grain, gloss, and overall appearance of all automotive Class A surfaces of systems and components (visible to the customer) including paint finishes, automotive woven fabrics, automotive leather, Molded in Plastic (MIC), chrome finishes, and extruded components.
Required travel to GM vehicle assembly plants in U.
S.
to evaluate interior and exterior harmony of production vehicles during launches, up to 20 days per year (equal to 5% annual travel).
Bachelor, Chemical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering; Plastic or Paint Technology, or related.
Twenty-four months' experience as Engineer, Designer, Design Quality Launch Lead or Team Lead, Appearance Quality Launch Lead, or related, reviewing Color and Trim Design Appearance Releases (CTDAR) and material strategies for material substrates, and identifying key engineering specifications, component manufacturability, material and paint engineering issues, and reviewing or approving color, grain, gloss, and overall appearance of automotive Class A surfaces of components (visible to customer) including paint finishes, automotive woven fabrics, automotive leather, Molded in Plastic (MIC), and chrome finishes, or related.
