Description General Motors Plant Floor Data Analytics and Systems group is seeking a talented manufacturing controls engineer interested in developing, maintaining and supporting controls designs to be implemented at GM vehicle assembly facilities and strategic suppliers for Plant Floor Systems Applications which includes interface with systems like - vehicle tracking, GEPICS, GSIP, option data delivery (ODD), and other related systems.
Responsibilities:
Specify control system components, system specifications, functional requirements, construction methods and verify adherence to specifications for Plant Floor systems like - PFE (Plant Floor Events) GPMC, Andon, ODD, Throughput logic, WebTIP interface etc. Strong working knowledge of Manufacturing related IT systems including Global Standard Inspection Process (GSIP), Global Enterprise Production and Information Control System(GEPICS), Global Production Monitoring and Controls (GPM&C) and MASS (Upload, Download and compare). Provide control system hardware and software designs including:
programmable logic devices, power distribution, I/O networks, human machine interfaces and cost estimating tools while following GM common controls hardware and software specifications Knowledge of GM error proofing systems Interface with other Manufacturing Engineering departments, plant engineers and GMIT to gather and document system requirements. Design control systems utilizing multiple, distributed PLC's; PC based operator interfaces and interface to IT systems. Good understanding of interface with GEPICS, GSIP, Andon & other plant floor systems applications Good understanding and experience with error proofing principles and technologies in GM - SEP, EPP Evaluation and validation of new control technology for use in manufacturing plants. Coordination with other controls Subject Matter Experts in controls area and IT department to lead & support development, validation and implementation efforts. Provide technical support to manufacturing plants on-site and remotely including:
new equipment startup, troubleshooting, reprogramming, diagnostic equipment usage, and interfacing with skilled trades personnel. Provide training and documentation for global deployment of the systems. Maintain training documents, system specifications over Sharepoint and coordinate with external suppliers for execution of approved training packages. Coordinate with Network experts for analysis on DeviceNet and Ethernet related issues Document issues, detailed analysis, learning and track progress Travel to GM NA plants, vendor facilities as needed ( 15 %) Additional Description Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field with Specialization in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science or information technology. Prior experience or willingness to learn existing GM Plant Floor systems 5 years experience with General Motors manufacturing control systems design, build and start-up. Hands on experience in automation controls design, project execution within GM with strong knowledge of GM Common controls Hardware and Software Good Knowledge of GM Common Controls Architecture; GCCS, GCCH Ability to travel to OEM and plant sites (globally). Experience with engineering computer tools for controls design and analysis. Experience in systems engineering, software development and hardware integration. Experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting, Human Machine Interface design and development. High level of interpersonal and communication skills. Thorough knowledge of the GM Mfg processes, mainly in GA & Body shops, quality systems Good communication & inter-personal skill Working Knowledge of plant floor systems including Error Proofing, Production Monitoring and Control, Andon Systems, Upload/Download and Compare, Throughput and Material Call Prior Work Experience in tooling Systems with knowledge of Common Controls Hardware and Common Controls Software Standards Strong working knowledge of Manufacturing related IT systems including Global Standard Inspection Process (GSIP), Global Enterprise Production and Information Control System(GEPICS), Global Production Monitoring and Controls (GPM&C) and MASS (Upload, Download and compare). Working knowledge of GMIT Launch Processes Plant job assignments 2-3 years Demonstrated maintenance of technical competency in relevant field Demonstrated understanding of Vehicle manufacturing process & parts design interface for error proofing applications Preferred Requirements:
Masters degree in Engineering or related field with Specialization in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science or information technology. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
