Tasks
Bosch Automotive Service Solutions LLC is seeking an Intellectual Property Attorney to join our dynamic team based out of our Warren, MI office. In this role you will be responsible for managing the patent portfolio for multiple product segments of the company in North America. Focus will be on electrical and mechanical arts, as well as software methods and modern technologies. The position will support IP Litigation Counsel in North America and Germany in conducting pre-litigation assessments to develop defensive and offensive litigation strategies, identifying potentially invalidating prior art and preparing cases for re-examination. The position will also provide support with trademarks and IP transactional work including licensing, collaboration, confidentiality and development agreements. Additional core responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Collaborate with engineering and marketing departments to elicit and prioritize innovations for patenting, preparing, drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications.
Manage work of outside counsel, conducting patentability, clearance, freedom-to-operate and infringement studies.
Assist business units with strategic patent portfolio management.
Requirements
Bachelors of Science degree or equivalent degree is required. Licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (Patent Agent) is required
Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school is required
3 years of experience drafting patent applications or 5 years experience in comparable in-house position
A successful track record of effectively working within cross-functional product development teams
Demonstrable understanding of intellectual property protection mechanisms, including patents, trade secrets and confidential information, trademarks and service marks, and copyrights (will require writing samples of patents prepared)
Demonstrable understanding of patent infringement issues, and patent litigation
Excellent communication skills
Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and comfortable working in database programs
